ATARC Mobile Working Group Project Teams

The ATARC Mobile Working Group is a technical working group of government, academia and private industry thought leaders collaborating on topics of interest to the Federal mobility community. The group’s goal is to provide the Federal Government with recommendations for methods to increase efficiency and reduce cost using cutting-edge mobile solutions.

1. Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

As Federal agencies develop guidance on Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), lessons can be learned from other agencies who have already implemented BYOD policies and programs. This project team will examine BYOD use cases within the government, as well as the risk and cost-benefit analyses that have been developed. Mobile workforce management will also be a focus of this group.

2. Emerging Technology Project Team

This project team will examine the art of the possible, focusing on disruptive mobile technologies and innovation that will impact the way a government agency conducts its daily business. Among the technologies that will be examined will include Virtual SIMs, Controlled Unclassified Information for Voice, and Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Wearables Virtual Reality, 5G and Drones.

3. Identity Management Project Team

This project team will examine a crucial component of mobile, identity management. The project team will analyze various components of the trusted execution environment including Identity and Access Management (IdAM), Credentials and Access Management (ICAM), Derived Credentials, Personal Identity Verification (PIV) and Common Access Card (CAC).

4. Mobile Security Project Team

The project team will examine all facets of mobile security, analyzing mobile security tools and recommended best practices for securing the mobile device. The team will also work on projects such as vetting of mobile applications for software vulnerabilities, and examination of FISMA metrics and other mobile security standards.

5. Mobile Agency Engagement Project Team

This project team will engage with a variety of Federal agencies, listening to their mobile challenges and pain paints, and then providing potential solutions utilizing a category management approach. The group will also examine strategic sourcing components surrounding mobile and analyze the challenges faced for agencies to successfully budget and procure mobile solutions for a government agency.

7. Mobile Device Managment Project Team

This Project Team will examine a variety of mobile management topics including: Mobile Device Management (MDM), Unified Endpoint Management (UEM), Mobile Application Management (MAM) and Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM). The group will analyze the technologies within these areas, as well their interaction and integration.

8. Mobile Backend-as-a-Service (MBaaS) Project Team

This project team will examine the components of Mobile Backend-as-a-Service (MBaas), such as APIs, connectors and Web Applications, and discuss ways Federal agencies can utilize MBaaS technology to extend legacy platforms and databases to mobile devices and applications.

9. Mobile Device-as-a-Service (DaaS) Project Team

This Project Team will examine Device-as-a-Service (DaaS) from a mobile perspective and analyze a model that allows agencies to outsource the deployment, management, servicing and recycling of mobile devices. The Team will also investigate how the DaaS model impacts procurement with a shift of mobile devices from a one-time capital expenditure to a monthly-recurring operating expenditure.

10. Mobile Roadmap Project Team

This project group will assist the Mobile Services Category Team and help define the 10 mobile sub-components from the MSCT’s Mobile Services Roadmap. The project team will also identify industry solutions in each category as well as the contract vehicles the government can utilize to purchase this technology. In addition, the project team will collaborate with the other Project Teams to compile official government policy and guidance documents.
